Dan Fouhy

Dan Fouhy’s brother tragically took his own life as a teenager. In this interview Dan talks about the importance of reaching out to those around you and being there for your friends when they need you. He knows that for his own mental health he needs to wind down and take time for himself.

For Dan, counselling has been important, especially in the early stages of grieving. Talking about what you’re going through with someone who will listen makes a real difference. His mental health is on the up, but he still has days where he relives the events of his brother’s suicide. Dan wants those who are struggling to know that the world is always better off with you in it.

Today Dan is completing his BA in Education and is looking at doing his masters next year. He is also working part time as a teacher aide at Tawa Intermediate and loves being able to have an impact on kids and the challenges they face.

From Melie

I have grown up with Dan and known him since I was 5 years old. I am proud to call Dan one of my best mates. He is so down to earth and I’m grateful to Dan for sharing his story. I know he will save people’s lives. This was the hardest interview of the series that covers a very heavy topic. So thank you Dan for your strength and vulnerability. It is a superpower.
