HomeTreading Water ArchivedIsrael Dagg

Israel Dagg

Welcome to the second series of Treading Water. In this episode, we have the honor of speaking with Izzy Dagg, a remarkable individual who has faced one of the biggest challenges of his life – admitting he had depression and seeking help. For Izzy, putting his ego aside was no easy feat. He carried a heavy burden of stigma, believing that as Israel Dag, he shouldn’t be weak. The idea of relying on medication to navigate the day-to-day grind seemed unnecessary and undeserving. After all, on the surface, he appeared happy to everyone else. However, deep down, his wife saw the truth – he wasn’t truly happy. Sport became Izzy’s sanctuary, a place where he could be himself, where Israel could shine through with a smile on his face. Growing up in a challenging environment, with limited resources and opportunities, sport became his love and passion. But even within the realm of sports, Izzy couldn’t escape the weight of his mental health struggles.
